Yeah, I pretty much agree with that. I've been contemplating about buying a Wii for a while now, but only for some of the games on it. Fuck motion-control. DS was also a great system, but most of my favorite games-except for Hotel Dusk and TWEWY, I guess- the touch screen could be omitted from gameplay, or wasn't used at all.
I dunno about nintendo deteriorating recently with weird innovations, though... you might be a bit young to remember it, but look up the "virtual boy". while nintendo gets a massive boner off of "innovations" like motion control, the best thing about their systems tends to be the classics - playing a great video game with a classic controller. in playing the wii, i've spent the most time using a gamecube controller. just like in playing the ds, i've spent the most time using buttons and forgoing the optional touch-screen stuff. i barely ever play a game that requires touch-screen control. this is a problem with nintendo, they like to make innovative stuff, but it ends up not being the backbone of their sales.
And also, the NGP is going to have major problems if they can't figure out a way to make PSP games available for the NGP without having to buy them again. Seriously. If people have to rebuy every PSP game they own, and have no way of transferring over file data in the process, I think they'll have serious doubts about buying the new handheld (some of them, at least). I hope they figure out a way to solve this problem.
