Nobody ever could agree on whether their arrival heralded the end of the world, or the destruction heralded their flight.

FLOCK

-=-=-=-=-=-

"Nobody could come up with a better way to describe it. The world was dying. Monsters arose from the lands, the land quaked, the seas roiled and the air was choked with fire and smoke. Our lands were killing us. Our homes were being destroyed. And the priests prayed, and the machinists worked, and those who could do neither merely waited.

And then the Flock appeared on the horizon.

Like a great swarm, they blotted out the sun as they moved closer – a great armada of colossal, slow-moving creatures, larger than continents – some gliding through the air, some coasting through the seas. Their forms were all different – some looking like ancient creatures told of in books, some as creatures we knew and saw in our daily life, and some as great foreign bodies no man could make sense of.

And when they stopped at our land, as if waiting for us, we knew they were our only chance.

We left our dying land, and boarded the Flock.

Once we boarded, we found that we weren’t the only ones who were being driven from our lands. Entire civilizations had already been built atop these creatures, vast cities and structures mounted on their backs or hanging from their sides and bodies… and the peoples and civilizations were there to greet, commiserate with, or plot against us. We built what we could, and joined them as the Flock prepared to leave our dead country… presumably for yet-dying lands. We weren’t the first of the Passengers, and from the sounds of things, we won’t be the last.

What’s more, even the oldest Passengers say that there were old structures, ruins and artifacts strewn across the Flock, even before they stepped aboard… as if these creatures really are worlds unto themselves.

Are they fleeing from something… or answering a call? Where are they going, or are they directionless?

Whatever the answer, we’re along for the ride, whether we like it or not."

--Commander Versall, leader of Vanius’s military forces

CHARACTER INFORMATION:

"Catastrophe does not discriminate. We were all driven from our homes, all of us driven onto the Flock by the destruction of the lands we called home. In time, and with work and toil, we have built new homes atop these great creatures; the countries who might once have been enemies have banded together out of either fear or brotherhood. We have been pushed together by fate, for better or for worse, and the most we can hope for is to live in peace and sufficient comfort until our benevolent carriers reach their journey's end."
~Eilus Aisurio, Elven Diplomat

Each nation is typically made up of the converging of several smaller countries, having grouped themselves together for support after the mass exodus onto the Flock. A nation will typically take refuge onto one particular creature of the Flock, building their central city there and unofficially claiming that creature as the bearer of their nation, with the remaining peoples building smaller cities and towns over the mass of the creature's body.

FLOCKBORN

"They operate quite unlike the kind of constructs I and my assistants have put together. It's like they don't need any force to move themselves - as if physics just don't apply to them. It feels... odd, tinkering around with these beings - after all, they were here before any of us - but I didn't get to where I was by being worried about stepping on anyone's toes! Might be some minor resistance when we try to knock them out and get them in the lab, but they're just old chunks of metal and cloth! I see things like them in the market every day! What could happen?"
~Dr. Ginyup, Gnome Machinist (deceased)

On the Flock, there exist a number of cavernous, porous complexes; giant biological dungeons formed through untold years and unknowable magic. And from these dungeons emerged the first true denizens of the Flock... its caretakers.

The Gali
Spoiler

The Durahan
Spoiler

Some welcome the outsiders, helping them rebuild their civilizations on the Flock, while others remain in the dark of the caverns, shunning those outside and attacking any who come close. Regardless of their interpretation, each has the directive firmly embedded in their consciousness: to safeguard and protect the Flock, no matter the cost.

Names for the two Flock-found races are typically simple phrases: (adjective+noun), (past-tense-verb+noun) or even in rare cases just a noun. A Gali's name is more likely to be abstract and poetic (ie. Shimmering Peace), while a Durahan's name is more likely to be stark and literal (ie. Grey Blade). Those who deal with them on a daily basis typically call them by one of the words that make up their name, or come up with a nickname.

So stoked. Even if I did decide to be mostly useless in combat, I'm stoked.

I've decided I'll take a crack at joining. As it was, seeing you talk about things on Skype, I might have even joined sooner or later even if you didn't make a new campaign, but this makes the decision a lot easier.

Alright, I'm tired of mind games. Which one of you two is the mom and which one's the dad? The dad would be the one that shoved the sperm into the other guys ass and pulled it out of the uterus.- BBB

Hey Toku, I was wondering if I could join in on this too? I've never played D&D so I'm a total newbie.

We're using 3.5, with lots of Pathfinder dipping.
