I'm attempting to make a guide to spriting that covers every aspect you will ever need to read about. Lets do this.

To find something quickly, just press CTRL+F on your keyboard and type in the number in brackets from the Table of Contents

5b. Terminology [2100]
Recolor - The process of simply changing the colors of a sprite. Recolor may also refer to the finished product

Splice - The combination of parts from multiple sprites. This includes anything from simply putting Oujay's head on Roy's body, to using super-fine pieces of 8 or more mugs just to make a perfect looking shoulderpad.

Custom - Refers to any parts of a sprite or mug that were drawn by hand, as apposed to being spliced from a different sprite.

Full Custom - Refers to any sprite that was made entirely by hand, incorporating absolutely no pieces from other sprites.

Shading - Refers to the incorporation of multiple shades of the same general color, so that the sprite blends properly and looks more realistic. Shading is typically considered the most important skill in spriting.

Dithering - A shading method, often used for fur, reptilian skin, or woven fabric, in which the transition of shades is more blended than your basic, linear shading.

Pillow Shading - Using unnecessarily thick amounts of darker shades, often in a rounder shape than necessary, which gives a sprite or a piece of your sprite the illusion that it is bulgy and soft, like a pillow. Occasions in which pillow shading is useful are few and far between.

Make a BEFORE YOU POST ANYTHING

1. First off, don't fucking attach images, upload it to a file hosting site such as photobucket or tinypic and use the img tags. Attaching images is a surefire way to exclaim "I AM A NOOB".

2. Make sure it's not a jpg. Any file hosting site will convert bmp. into jpg so save it in png. or giffy convert a bmp. to gif. (preferably transparent)

3. Use a color palate that doesn't burn eyes out. Never use pure black or any default paint color.

4. Be prepared for brutally honest criticism.

I think that's mostly it.

Don't worry, thats pretty much what the "Getting Started" section was going to say. Thats also the entire basis of YQ's do's and don'ts.
