Now, back to Eirika. Before battle, you should probably the Guiding Ring
you got in the last chapter on one of your magic users that you hopefully
trained in the arena. If you didn't though, you should probably hold off
for now.
Anyway, on with the battle. This is your first Fog of War map, meaning that
you have limited vision. I suggest bringing Colm as thieves have higher
vision. Couple him with a torch and he'll have a pretty good view of the
surroundings.
Okay now, move east at a rather brisk pace. Because, you see those
poor, innocent civilians over there? Well, you've got to save them from
being murdered by giant bloodthirsty spiders. And why do we do this? To
get a free Orion's Bolt from them, of course! So here's what you do.
Bring Vanessa. More than likely, she'll still be embarrassingly weak. So
just keep her in the back of the group. But press onward. A wall of
enemies will come and either be destroyed or destroy you. I suggest
putting only strong characters in front. If you utilize support
conversations your army will utterly wipe out the opposing army. Make
sure to keep Colm's torch fresh so you can see all coming dangers.
Now, on to saving the villagers. Get Vanessa to carry a unit that's of
decent strength over next to the villagers. Preferably a unit with a
long-range weapon. I used Lute for this.
Spiders appear on turn 7. They're pretty weak, so don't worry too much
about them. I rescued the girl because she was in my way. Once you've
dealt with the spiders, move your units upward slowly, making sure to
use your torch.
There's a whole bunch of guys up by the boss. Novala won't move, so
don't worry about him for now. Send up your units as one to deal with
the assortment of foes around Novala. Done with that? Head for the
boss.
